saab Ignition key Key Programming

Saab cars built since 1994 use an immobilizer system that is based on keys that are coded. In order to add a second key, it requires the purchase of a new transponder as well as special programming. This is usually handled by the dealer using a Tech2 diagnostic tool.

The problem is that it can be very expensive. You should always keep an extra set of keys on hand.

Transponder key

The transponder is a type of key equipped with an electronic chip. This chip sends a signal when the key is inserted in the ignition. The car then examines the signal to see whether it is identical to the one on the key. If the signals match the car will then unlock itself and begin. This is a great method to protect your vehicle from theft.

Transponder keys could be an extremely popular accessory for cars, but they're not as safe as traditional metal keys. While the metal part of a conventional key can be cut and copied however, a transponder is secured by an electronic chip. The chip has a unique code which is programmed into a car's computer in order to identify it.

Jumpstarting the battery

Most people keep a few sets of jumper cables in their trunk in case of emergency, but jumping a battery for newer cars might not be the best idea. These vehicles are equipped with a number of digital and electronic devices that communicate with one another. A voltage spike when a battery is hooked up to another can fry these components and render your car unable to drive.

Connect the cables to the vehicle that is operating. Let it run for two minutes. Attach the red clip to the positive terminal on the good battery (it will have "POS" or "+" on it). Attach the other end to a clean and unpainted metal surface beneath the hood of the damaged vehicle. The engine block is an excellent alternative.
