French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines, and customizable flex drawers make them stand out from the rest.

We asked Ladina Schopf - interior designer, architect, and founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the best one. They considered the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Like the name suggests, GE's Profile series is geared towards consumers who want to incorporate cutting-edge technology into their kitchen. This fridge has them all from the Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator is a premium, I expect higher quality.

Apart from that minor flaw the fridge is a fantastic choice. It has a large freezer compartment, which is quite uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Furthermore, it holds a good amount of frozen foods compared to similar models.

Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on what you would expect from an French door fridge costing this much. It comes with a decent size refrigerator with an ice maker in the left door. However it's not the biggest one I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in both compartments to create a custom storage setup for what you want to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is also attractive. The LED lighting is an appealing accent. The bins for storage inside have a third shelf which can be folded down to store large items. The drawers come with temperature controls so you can set them to Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their textured plastic coatings to be a bit hard on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range. It has Wi-Fi as well as app support, and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and offers a ton of customization options. It also sends you notifications when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs defrosting and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be great if GE PYE22PYNFS offered Precise fill which is a feature that is available in a few GE refrigerators that allows users to choose the amount of cups they wish to dispense. The fridge displays a countdown timer to reveal how much water remains however it's not as effective as Precise Fill.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test for several reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit and never fluctuating more than a fraction an inch. This is essential in preventing freezing burn. The refrigerator section of the fridge also performed well. It reached the initial temperature set within an hour and remained at that temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its high-end appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that Bosch counter depth refrigerator is one of them. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a top counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage in a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with the standard French door design, and two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set of crisper drawers. The top right shelf can be folded down to give taller items more room. There's also a full-width drawer for products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

This refrigerator has a freezer with an ice maker, making it easy to transfer the frozen ice whenever you need it. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers that can help you better organize the placement of your items. It also has a large container for storing frozen food and a separate container for ice.

Another great feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your refrigerator from your smartphone. It's a good way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. This fridge took longer to chill food and defrost it than some others we tried. This could be due to its bigger capacity.

The other issue we have with this refrigerator is its doors. The handles with a sunken design allow smaller people to open them from the bottom. However taller people will have a hard time closing them without slamming. It would have been better if they had front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a excellent option for those looking to combine the advantages of a French-door fridge's aesthetics with a more efficient layout. Its capacity is superior to counter-depth models, and it cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which can make it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth french door Fridge with drawer Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't break the bank, this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a basic refrigerator that may not be as appealing like some of its competitors however, it does have enough features to make it a good option. Its most notable feature is the temperature adjustable drawer that helps keep food items like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits over the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. This drawer allows you to direct the majority of the fridge's cooling power to the area so that you can keep food items that require special attention. You can adjust this feature by using an adjustable slider that is located just on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this feature to set a general cooling level for the entire fridge, though I've found that adjusting the general settings tends be more effective than specific ones.

In my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the fridge. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the refrigerator didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees. This is a good performance but doesn't quite make it to the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also connect this fridge to a smart thermometer for more precise measurements of your fridge's internal temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made from gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It does an excellent job of preventing streaks and fingerprints from appearing even when compared with glossier stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
