1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO

The i3+ is a great option for those looking for a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience, but are willing to manually empty the robot's dustbin after it has filled up.

Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on hard floors and carpets, and they're very adept in getting around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ isn't able to have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we have tested. It can be stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like carpet and hardwood.

iRobot suggests that you clean the area in which the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it might encounter. Also, keep the filters and dust bin clear to avoid getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is low it goes back to its docking station, automatically empties its debris into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half of continuous use, and it takes about three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating, but the most important feature is its auto-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and control your robot with voice or through the app.

In our tests, the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and Robot Vac it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and reduces the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning sessions, move itself around the room, and even vacuum the area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ to these services. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that feel like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is a sports car. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered with a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy, which produces energy that lasts for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction settings to match the task that is being completed. It can quickly change between handheld and floor robot vacuum and vice versa.

This model has a dock that can charge the Dyson to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. It also gives an easy access to two attachments as well as an wand. This is a huge improvement over the older Dysons, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its limited run time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of run time are a bit misleading, as CR's testing shows. One of iRobot's most popular robot vacuums the 694 is a basic model that's a great choice for people who don't wish to spend too much on a robotic. It was able to remove most types of debris in our testing and often went over the same area multiple times for an extensive clean. The flat front of the unit allows to get into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice addition.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more sophisticated models such as our top choices and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. As a result, it is sometimes stuck on things like phone cords or furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently is power-depleted before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 in that it has less parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower recurring cost, is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and can better navigate itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and can charge faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also comes with physical boundaries and can be controlled with the voice assistant on your smartphone. It is also more robust, has a larger motor, and is more effective on low-pile and bare floors.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's no surprise, then, that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a wide range of customization options for your robotic cleaner. This includes virtual barriers, mopping levels and behavior customizations docking frequency settings, robot vac and more. The app is easy to learn and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our tests of the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and handled dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86% of it. However, it didn't do particularly well in avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested and this could be a deterrent for some shoppers.

The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that you can access via the app, and you can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station.
